The E. Appel Hans Verlag GmbH & Co. is a company with headquarters in Braunschweig . The predecessor publisher CA Schwetschke & Sohn was founded in Halle in 1729.

Publishing history

The predecessor publisher CA Schwetschke und Sohn was founded in 1729 by Johann Georg Klemm in Halle. His successors Carl Hermann Hemmerde , Carl August Schwetschke , Carl Ferdinand Schwetschke and Carl Gustav Schwetschke initially continued the publishing house in Halle. The publishing house was sold to Moritz Bruhn in 1851 , who relocated the publishing house to Braunschweig on September 1, 1852. His son and successor Harald Bruhn sold the publishing bookstore on July 1, 1885 to the Braunschweig bookseller Eugen Appelhansand Wiegandt. In 1900, after Wiegandt had left the company in 1897, the publishing house was sold on by Eugen Appelhans to Emil Loezius, who moved the company headquarters to Berlin. The publishing rights of Appelhans were partially transferred to his own publishing house "E. Appelhans & Comp. ”.

From 1908 the court bookseller Rudolf Stolle headed the company. This made it his task to maintain the culture of the Braunschweig area. In 1940 his son Hans also bought a printing company in Salzgitter. In 1962 the company “E. Appelhans & Co. ”was sold to Karl and Joachim Ruth and the company's headquarters moved to Salzgitter. Oliver Ruth took over the management of the print shop in 1989 and began to revitalize the publishing division. In 1998 the head office was moved back to Braunschweig. Appelhans Verlag is part of "Ruth Printmedien GmbH".
