Distribution of unemployment (2006)

The data on unemployment in the Netherlands are based on data from Eurostat and those of the Dutch Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS).

The unemployment rate is the percentage of the unemployed in the labor force in the Netherlands . The economically active population is the sum of the employed and the unemployed. The unemployed include all persons between the ages of 15 and 74:

  • who were out of work during the reporting week
  • who were currently available for employment, i.e. persons who were available for dependent employment or self-employment within the two weeks following the reference week
  • who were actively looking for a job, i.e. people who have taken specific steps within the last four weeks (including the reference week) to find dependent employment or self-employment or who have found a job but did not find employment until later means to record within a maximum period of three months

The annual unemployment rates from 1948 to 2006 are each an average of 12 monthly reports on unemployment in the Netherlands.
