The Archicultura, foundation for local and landscape maintenance is a Swiss foundation based in Lucerne . The foundation was established in 1996 for the sustainable preservation and development of the Swiss townscape .

aims

The goals are the sustainable preservation and development of intact localities in Switzerland, but also in the border areas of neighboring countries. The foundation is known for evaluating the quality of the townscape of Swiss cities, villages, districts and hamlets. Your aim is to make as many citizens as possible aware of this issue. With the help of traveling exhibitions and leaflets, the foundation would like to sensitize the population to more beautiful places. The first step in this direction was the publication of a postcard in 1999, on which the results of the assessment of the quality of the landscape of Switzerland were shown in color.

The foundation is active throughout Switzerland and is already represented in 13 cantons. It is subject to foundation supervision by the Canton of Lucerne and has been tax-exempt since May 25, 1999.

The foundation is based on the legal prohibitions on defacement and integration requirements. As a public law task, its main purpose is to stand up for

  • intact pictures of places and landscapes;
  • the incorporation of all buildings and installations into them;
  • the prevention of blemishes and architectural chaos.

In doing so, she does not want to prevent contemporary buildings, but rather encourage them to be appropriately integrated into the existing townscape. The foundation's philosophy is harmony . Archicultura depends on the help of sponsors to finance the projects. The foundation is also active in the border areas of the neighboring countries Germany , France , Italy and Austria as well as in Liechtenstein and parts of Greece .

The foundation is also committed to Panoramio , where more than 1500 photos are registered as examples of good and bad local image quality.

job

The foundation deals with the evaluation of the townscape in Swiss towns. The rough assessment of the overall harmony of the towns or districts covers around 95 percent of the towns in Switzerland. The architectural character is assessed, i.e. H. the existence of traditional local architecture, the matching of old and new buildings and quarters, the existence of atypical, unsuitable, disruptive or defaced buildings and facilities, including the architectural chaos as well as picturesque aspects and more. These rough assessments are shown on regional tourism maps, which can be viewed at the foundation.

rating

The rated locations are divided into three categories according to the number of buildings and their integration into the location:

  • Green area: Harmonious, picturesque townscape or parts of townscape typical of the area
  • Yellow component: sites or parts of sites without architectural character typical of the site (structural arbitrariness)
  • Red component: sites or parts of sites with unsuitable, unsuitable, disruptive or disfiguring buildings and systems; up to architectural chaos.

Test results on the website

The foundation presents the results on maps on which the quality of the townscape of the respective cities, villages and hamlets is shown. In addition, in 1999 the Foundation published a postcard on which the results of the assessment of the quality of the townscape of Switzerland as a whole were shown in color.
