The Arena Carioca 2 is a multi-purpose hall in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Park , which is connected to two other halls.
history
The Carioca 2 arena is the middle of the three Carioca arenas and was built for the 2016 Summer Olympics on the site of a former racetrack. After three years of construction, the hall was opened on May 14, 2016 by the Minister of Sport, Leonardo Picciani . Also present were judoka Sarah Menezes , wrestler Joice Silva and the national boccia team. The hall's capacity was 10,000 spectators during the Olympic Games. The judo and wrestling competitions took place in the arena . As part of the subsequent Paralympics 2016 , the hall was used as a competition venue for the boccia games. After the games, the 4,000 square meter hall was converted into a training center and could also be rented for trade fairs or congresses.
In January 2020, a court ordered the temporary closure of all sports facilities in Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park due to a lack of security documents .
