Arik Armstead (born November 15, 1993 in Sacramento , California , United States ) is an American football player for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL) and plays on the defensive end position . He played college football at the University of Oregon .
Early years
Armstead attended Pleasant Grove High School in California . He was a four-star recruit at 247sports.com. In January 2012, the University of Oregon signed him to play college football.
college
Armstead played 13 games as a freshman in 2012 and started out as a starter once . He finished the year with 26 tackles and a half sack . In his second year (2013), Armstead played 9 games and was credited with 15 tackles and 2.0 sacks. In 2014 he finished the year as a junior with 46 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Armstead officially announced after his junior season that he would participate in the 2015 NFL Draft.
NFL
Armstead was selected as the 17th player in the 2015 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round. Armstead played 16 games in the 2015 season. At the end of the season he had 19 tackles and 2 sacks. On November 8, 2016, Armstead was placed on the Injured Reserve List due to a shoulder injury . He finished the season with 15 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 8 games. On October 17, 2017, Armstead was placed on the Injured Reserve after suffering a broken hand in Week 6. He finished the season with 16 tackles and 15 sacks and a pass deflection in 6 games. On April 30, 2018, the San Francisco 49ers withdrew the option of a fifth year in Armstead's contract.
