Arlington Valles

Arlington Valles (birth name: Frederick Arlington Valles ; born May 4, 1886 in London ; † April 12, 1970 in Hollywood , California ) was a British- born American costume designer who won an Oscar for best costume design in 1961 and another before that Time was nominated for this Oscar.

Life

Valles began his career as a costume designer in the Hollywood film industry in 1938 with the film A Christmas Carol and was involved in the costume design of over sixty films and television series until 1960 .

At the Oscar ceremony in 1951 , he was with Walter Plunkett for the Oscar for Best Costume Design in a color film nominated, namely for That Forsyte Woman (1949) by Compton Bennett with Errol Flynn , Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon in the lead roles .

In 1961 he and Bill Thomas won the Oscar for best costume design in a color film for the historical and monumental film Spartacus (1960) by Stanley Kubrick with Kirk Douglas , Laurence Olivier and Jean Simmons . Spartacus was also the last film Valles helped make.
