Armin Engländer (born January 25, 1969 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German legal scholar . Since October 1, 2014, he has been professor of criminal law , criminal procedural law , legal sociology and legal philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Life

Engländer first studied political science at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in 1989/90 . From 1990 to 1996 he studied law there and passed the first state examination in 1996 . He was then a trainee lawyer and passed the second state examination in 1999.

From 1999 to 2002, Engländer worked as a research assistant , from 2002 to 2008 as a research assistant and from 2008 to 2009 as an academic advisor to Michael Hettinger at the chair for criminal law, criminal procedural law and criminal law history at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . In 2002, he was with his work on the issue " discourse as a source of law ?" At Horst Dreier at the Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg doctorate . In 2008 Engländer completed his habilitation with his thesis “Reason and Limits of Emergency Aid at the Faculty of Law and Economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and received the venia legendi for criminal law , criminal procedure law , legal philosophy and legal theory .

In 2008, Engländer was offered professorships for criminal law and criminal procedure law in Trier and Passau . As of April 1, 2009, Engländer held the chair for criminal law, criminal procedure law, commercial criminal law and legal philosophy at the Law Faculty of the University of Passau, succeeding Bernhard Haffke . In 2014 Engländer accepted a professorship for criminal law, criminal procedural law, legal philosophy and legal sociology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, where he has been teaching and researching since October 1, 2014.

Political commitment

English is a member of the CDU . He was a member of the district council of the Hochtaunuskreis for 16 years , including chairman of the parliamentary group for almost 10 years .

Research priorities

Engländer's academic focus is particularly on the topics of self-defense and emergency aid , justifying and excusing emergencies and other reasons for justification and apology . In addition, within the framework of legal philosophy , he deals with the discourse theory of law and with legal positivism / natural law controversy . He has authored several textbooks and published essays and other publications. His writings have been translated into Russian and Japanese.
