Armindo da Conceição Silva

Armindo da Conceição Silva Freitas , fighting name Tufão Leste , (born May 25, 1945 in Moro , Parlamento , Lautém , Portuguese Timor ; † July 9, 2018 in Dili , East Timor ) was a politician from East Timor and a member of FRETILIN .

Career

Armindo was born in Moro in 1945 to Aleixo da Silva and Hermelinda da Silva. In 1961 Armindo da Silva completed his training in public administration at the Lautém Administrative Office in Parlamento, where he continued to work. In 1969 Silva became the Chefe de Suco of Parlamento. In 1974 he was appointed Vice-Secretary for the Moro Zone by FRETILIN. During the Indonesian occupation, Armindo was involved in the resistance. From 1976 to 1978 Silva and his family lived in the resistance base at Matebian . Even after the collapse of the base, Silva remained active in the resistance. In 1986 he became vice secretary of the resistance movement in the Ponta Leste region. After the independence referendum in East Timor in 1999 , Silva was the coordinator of FRETILIN in the Ponta Leste region from 1999 to October 2000.

In the elections for the Constituent Assembly on August 30, 2001 , Silva won the direct mandate of the Lautém district with 54.93% of the vote. With the independence of East Timor on May 20, 2002 , the assembly became a national parliament and Silva was a member of parliament. After the new elections in June 2007 , Silva left parliament.

On July 9, 2018, Silva died in the Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares in Dili.

In 2006 Silva was awarded the Ordem Nicolau Lobato , 1st degree.
