Arne Mattsson

Arne Mattsson (born December 2, 1919 in Uppsala , † June 26, 1995 ) was a Swedish film director and screenwriter .

Life

After studying engineering, Arne Mattsson was initially Per Lindberg's assistant director and directed short films. In 1944 he shot his first feature film with ... och alla dessa kvinnor . He became internationally known in 1951 with the film She danced only for one summer , but more because of a short nude scene with the main actors Ulla Jacobsson and Folke Sundquist than because of its artistic qualities. The bread of love (1953) is considered to be “probably the most important film that has not been influenced by commercial considerations” .

He staged several of his works based on well-known literary models, such as Salka Valka (1954) after Halldór Laxness and Körkarlen (1958) after Selma Lagerlöf . In addition, numerous unimportant strips of various genres were made, often crime films of the simplest quality. In the last years of his career he was also active in international productions. With around 60 films, Mattsson was one of the most productive Swedish directors.
