Arnfrid Wünschmann

Arnfrid "Arnd" Wünschmann (born July 4, 1935 in Dresden ) is a German zoologist and former zoo director of Hellabrunn Zoo .

Life

After studying zoology, botany, geography and chemistry, Wünschmann received his doctorate in 1962 with his dissertation on quantitative investigations into the curiosity behavior of vertebrates at the University of Münster . nat. PhD. He then worked as a research assistant at the Zoological Institute of the University of Münster. From 1963 to 1971 he worked as a senior scientific assistant and deputy director (alongside Heinz-Georg Klös ) of the Berlin Zoological Garden . Here he led, among other things, a study of the sleep patterns of the Southern lasiorhinus ( Lasiorhinus latifrons by) what he article 1967 entertainment experience with wombats and 1970, the book The Plump Beutler (Vombatidae) published. In 1967 he was elected a member of the Society of Friends of Natural Sciences in Berlin . From 1972 to 1981 he was director of the Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich . Henning Wiesner was his successor . In 1981 he joined the management of the environmental foundation WWF Germany , where he headed the nature conservation, public relations and environmental education departments until 1992. Then he was environmental spokesman for WWF Germany until his retirement in 2000.

Wünschmann is married and has three daughters.
