Arnie Zane

Arnie Zane (born September 26, 1948 in New York City , † March 30, 1988 ) was an American photographer, choreographer and dancer.

Zane studied at Binghamton University , where he met his future partner, the dancer and choreographer Bill T. Jones . 1973 received a grant from the Creative Artists Public Service (CAPS) as a photographer . In the same year he founded the modern dance group American Dance Asylum with Jones, Lois Welk and Jill Becker , which dealt with topics such as racism, sexual understanding of roles and AIDS. In 1980 he was awarded the German Critics' Prize for Blauvelt Mountain together with Jones . In 1981 he received a second CAPS grant, this time as a choreographer.

In 1982 Zane and Jones founded the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane & Company (later Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company ). In the following two years he received scholarships from the National Endowment for the Arts . In 1986, he and Jones received the New York Dance and Performance Award . Zane died in 1988 at the age of thirty-nine of complications from an AIDS infection. After his death, the book Body Against Body: The Dance and Other Collaborations of Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane was published in 1989 , in which Jones and Zane reflected on their work together in the company. In 1999, Continuous Replay: The Photographs of Arnie Zane was published by MIT Press.
