Arsénio Pereira da Silva (born May 10, 1973 in Tutuala , Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese politician.

Career

Arsénio Pereira da Silva was born the fourth of seven children to Felis Pereira and Julita da Silva. He has a sister and five brothers. Silva attended primary school in Tutuala and secondary school in Lospalos . Then he went from 1991 to 1995 to a school in Dilis district Becora . Finally, he studied at the university in Malang , Indonesia , which he did not graduate because he was involved in the East Timorese resistance in the student organization Rental. Silva was one of the participants in the demonstration on November 12, 1991, which ended in the Santa Cruz massacre , and one of the peaceful occupiers of various embassies in Jakarta . Back in East Timor, he started working for the non-governmental organization USI Satunama in 1998 , where he was responsible for projects for agriculture and clean drinking water in Laclubar , Manatuto and Laclo .

Silva worked with the Rental network until the independence referendum in 1999 . After the referendum, he and his family fled back to his homeland in Tutuala, where he stayed for five months, because of the Indonesian retribution . After the situation had stabilized somewhat, Silva worked with the remnants of Satunama to help his home church. Houses were rebuilt and books were obtained for the children. In 2001 Silva became the coordinator of the non-governmental organization Hasatil.

From 2005, Silva resumed his studies at the Universidade da Paz (UNPAZ) in the subject of agricultural technology. At the same time, he continued to work for Hasatil to support farmers in increasing their yields. In 2007 he graduated. Silva also worked for the international organization Lavia Kampuzina. From 2010 to 2013 he was elected coordinator for East Asia and visited Mozambique and South Korea in this context .

From September 1, 2012, Silva was Executive Director of FONGTIL (Forum of Non-Governmental Organizations in East Timor) for two legislative terms of three years, an umbrella organization that coordinated the work of local and international non-governmental organizations in the country and provided them with information.

In the parliamentary elections in East Timor 2012 , Silva took the hopeless place 44 on the list of Frenti-Mudança .

In the Eighth Constitutional Government of East Timor under Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak , Silva became State Secretary for Cooperatives as a representative of the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT) party . The swearing-in took place on June 22, 2018. Following the breakup of AMP 2020, members of the CNRT government were asked to resign from their posts. Silva followed suit on May 25th.
