Branching of the celiac trunk

The artery gastric artery ( "left gastric artery") is an artery of the abdominal cavity in the region of the upper abdomen . It is one of the three main branches of the celiac trunk .

The left gastric artery runs towards the upper portion of the lesser curvature of the stomach . There it anastomoses with the right artery of the same name ( arteria gastrica dextra ) and together with it supplies this area of the stomach wall. It also sends branches to the esophagus ( Rami oesophagei ) and thus participates in the blood supply to the lower part of this organ.

As a variant, it is also involved in supplying the left lobe of the liver in 23% of people .
