Arthaus is a brand of Kinowelt Home Entertainment and belongs to Studiocanal GmbH in Leipzig. Arthaus sells feature films and documentaries on DVD and Blu-ray and has specialized in the publication of works by important German and European directors. Arthaus also publishes masterpieces from film history in special editions.

history

The foundation of the style home video distribution company took place in 1994. On May 1, 1994, the first ten movies were VHS releases. The first DVDs were released in October 1998 with Boogie Nights and Kundun . Arthaus has been part of Kinowelt Home Entertainment since 1999 . In 2007 the first Blu-ray ( The Journey of the Penguins ) was included in the program. The elaborately produced general catalog 2010/2011 presents around 1,000 Arthaus titles on 236 pages.

Special editions

The Arthaus Premium edition includes new editions of classic films such as The Third Man . The Arthaus Collection edition includes 50 works by well-known directors. This series was continued with the Arthaus Collection Klassiker , Arthaus Collection Klassiker II , Arthaus Collection Literature , Arthaus Collection Literature II , Arthaus Collection Asian Cinema , Arthaus Collection British Cinema , Arthaus Collection American Independent Cinema and Arthaus Collection Documentary . Together with Rolling Stone magazine , Arthaus presents the Music Movies Collection with twelve music films. The limited film publisher of the authors' edition includes 50 works from 1968 to 2008, including 22 for the first time on DVD, and an illustrated book with 160 pages. The Edition German film includes 50 works from the years 1924 to 2009. It is the first detailed series on German film . The StudioCanal Collection is showing older films ( Der Elefantenmensch et al.) For the first time on Blu-ray with new bonus material and a 20-page booklet.
