Arthur Enk

Arthur Enk (born July 15, 1894 in Frankfurt am Main , † April 24, 1976 in Peine ) was a German CDU politician .

Life and work

After school, Enk, who was a Protestant , completed a bank apprenticeship in Frankfurt am Main and worked there and later in Düsseldorf , Essen , Berlin and Hamburg . In 1937 he took over the family-owned company in the telephone industry, which he moved to Peine in 1945. He was a member of the board of the responsible Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as of the “Großhandelsbund Niedersachsen”. From 1949 to 1976 he was president of the regional association of cultural associations in Lower Saxony.

From 1946 Enk was a city councilor in Peine and a member of the Peine district council . From 1957 to 1961 and from 1965 to 1969 he was a member of the German Bundestag , where he represented the constituency of Peine - Gifhorn . After Konrad Adenauer's death in 1967, he was the oldest member of the Bundestag in the fifth legislative period .

Political party

Enk was a member of the German People's Party from 1923 to 1933 , of which he was a member of the management. During the time of National Socialism he was not politically active. After the Second World War he became a member of the CDU.

Public offices

Enk was mayor of Peine in 1955/56. Since 1956 he was the city's senator.
