Arthur Johnston (* 10. January 1898 in New York City , New York ; † 1. May 1954 in Corona del Mar , California ) was an American composer of film music , who at the Academy Awards in 1937 for the Oscar for Best Song nominee was.

Johnston began his career in the Hollywood film industry in 1930 with Melody Man and was nominated for an Oscar for best song in 1937 for the song "Pennies from Heaven" from the film of the same name, together with songwriter Johnny Burke .

Many of his songs such as “Cocktails for Two”, “Just One More Chance” (with Sam Coslow ), “ Pennies from Heaven ” or “Thanks” are to this day in films like Wie ein Wilder Stier (1980), Everyone says: I love you (1996), Buddy - The Christmas Elf (2003) and Aviator (2004).

In 1970 he was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame .
