Life

After attending the secondary school in Karlsruhe, Valdenaire studied architecture with Adolf Weinbrenner at the Technical University of Karlsruhe from 1901 to 1905 , then he worked in Max Laeuger's office, from 1909 to 1912 at the Frankfurt Building Department, and from 1912/1913 as a teacher at the Offenbach building trade school . In 1913 he was with Adolf von Oechelhaeuser with a thesis on the architect Friedrich Weinbrenner doctorate . After the First World War he worked in Karlsruhe as a freelance architect and from 1918 to 1927 as an assistant at the Karlsruhe Faculty of Architecture. In 1933 he became a librarian at the regional trade office in Karlsruhe, and in 1945 after his return from World War II he was appointed head of the monument administration in Karlsruhe.

In 1936 Valedenaire was commissioned with the creation of an inventory of monuments for the city of Karlsruhe, the first volume of which, The City and the Castle District , should go to press in 1940. Due to his convocation, the work, which was only published posthumously in 2014, was no longer published, which represents an important source work for the monuments of the city of Karlsruhe before its destruction.

The Valdenaire estate is in the Southwest German Archive for Architecture and Civil Engineering .
