Arthur von Mohrenheim
Arthur Pawlowitsch Baron von Mohrenheim ( Russian Артур Павлович Моренгейм ; * May 27 / June 8, 1824 in Moscow ; † 1906 in Pau , France ) was a Russian diplomat and is considered the architect of the Franco-Russian " Zweiverband " from 1894.
Life
Mohrenheim came from a noble family from the Grodno Governorate in Belarus . His grandfather Josef Mohrenheim (1759–1797) came to the Russian Empire from Austria as a personal physician in 1783. He attended Moscow University , graduated in law, and entered the diplomatic service of the Russian Empire in 1845 .
From 1851 to 1856 Mohrenheim worked at the Russian embassy in Vienna , and from 1858 to 1867 in an advisory capacity at the embassy in Berlin . In 1867 he was appointed Russian envoy to the Danish court in Copenhagen , after he had previously been involved in the negotiations for the marriage (1866) of the Danish princess Dagmar with the Russian tsarevich , later tsar Alexander III. , had played an important role.
In 1882 Mohrenheim became ambassador to London , but did not feel at home there, which is why he moved to Paris as ambassador two years later (1884) , where he stayed until 1898. On 23 July 1886, the reported Recent communications over a political meeting with Otto von Bismarck in the spa town of Bad Kissingen : "Besides, there is also the Russian ambassador in Paris, Baron Mohrenheim, the cure and dealing with the Chancellor."
