Artjom Valerjewitsch Sub ( Russian Артём Валерьевич Зуб ; English transcription: Artyom Valeriyevich Zub ; born October 3, 1995 in Khabarovsk ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League since May 2020 . The defender previously spent almost four years at SKA Saint Petersburg in the Continental Hockey League and won the Gagarin Cup with it in 2017 . At the 2018 Winter Olympics , Sub won the gold medal under a neutral flag .

Career

Artyom Sub began his career in his hometown with Amur Khabarovsk , for whose junior team Amurskie Tigry Khabarovsk he played in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga (MHL) from 2011 to 2015 . In the 2014/15 season , the defender came to his first appearances in the professional team in the Continental Hockey League . He was also elected to the MHL All-Star Team. In December 2016 he moved to SKA Saint Petersburg . In 2017 Sub won the Gagarin Cup with the team from the world's northernmost metropolis .

After more than 250 KHL games, Sub signed a one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators from the National Hockey League (NHL) in May 2020 .

International

Artjom Sub represented his home country in the junior division at the U18 World Cup in 2013 . At the 2017 World Cup he was part of the Russian national team for the first time and won the bronze medal with it. The defender then became Olympic champion at the 2018 Winter Games with the Sbornaja starting under a neutral flag .
