Ashikaga Yoshimochi ( Jap. 足利義持 * 12. March 1386 ; † 3. February 1428 ) was the fourth shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate , that of 1394 bis 1423 during the Muromachi period in Japan ruled. Yoshimochi was the son of the third Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu .

After his father withdrew from government business in 1394, Yoshimochi followed him in the same year as Seii Taishogun . As a young child, Yoshimochi formally had authority over the shogunate. After his father died in 1408 , Yoshimochi also got the power of the Shogun.

In 1423 Yoshimochi retired and was followed by his son, the fifth Shogun Ashikaga Yoshikazu .
