Aso Hawleri (actually Aso Muhammad Hassan ; other names are Asad Muhammad Hasan and Asad Muhamad Amin Harki ; * 1962 in Erbil , Iraq) is an Iraqi - Kurdish Islamist.

In 1991 he joined the Islamic Movement in Kurdistan , where he was promoted to the Central Committee in 1997. He commanded the largest regiment in the Islamic Movement, the Second Soran Unit. After conflicts with the leadership of the Islamic Movement, the Second Soran Unit split from the Islamic Movement in 2001.

The Second Soran Unit merged with the Jund al-Islam group in September 2001 . The leader was Abu Abdallah al-Shafi , his deputy Aso Hawleri. This association is said to have taken place with the approval and support of Al-Qaeda . When the Jund al-Islam group merged with another group on December 10, 2001 to form the Ansar al-Islam group, Aso Hawleri became second deputy.

A scanned image of Aso Hawleri's ID was discovered by journalist Alan Cullison on an al-Qaeda computer left behind in Kabul in 2001 , suggesting a possible training in Afghanistan .

Aso Hawleri was arrested by the American military on October 10, 2003 in Mosul (Iraq). He is still in US captivity.
