Association Française des Cinémas d'Art et d'Essai

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The French Association Française des Cinémas d'Art et d'Essai (AFCAE) was founded in 1955 by five cinemas with the aim of promoting artistic cinema.

In 1959, the French Minister of Culture, André Malraux, achieved state recognition and funding for the AFCAE, which has made the AFCAE very important today with 1200 members (2010) and highly valued lists of recommendations. The proportion of art cinemas is therefore much higher in France than elsewhere.

The current chairman is Patrick Brouiller .
