Association Internationale des Journalistes de Ski

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association Internationale des Journalistes de Ski ( AIJS for short ) is the international association of ski journalists. The journalists' association consists of representatives of the mass media who deal with alpine skiing - primarily in the context of the World Cup , Olympic Winter Games and World Championships . The association attracts more attention every year with the award of the Skieur d'Or .

history

Toni Sailer's successes at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo and the subsequent Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley made alpine skiing popular in many new countries and certain races, which have now been referred to as "classics", drew more and more spectators and Reporter. At that time there were no press centers and journalists had to work in their hotel rooms, from where they dictated texts to the secretaries in their offices. Some used a telex to communicate with their editorial offices . It was also difficult to get official results lists or comments from athletes and coaches quickly. Reporters even stopped their own split times along the route, which they then entered into their reports.

A group of European newspaper journalists , including Serge Lang and Karl Erb wanted to improve working conditions for Skireporter and founded in 1961 in the Swiss Murren the Association Internationale des Journalistes de Ski (AIJS). Lang became the first president of the association and held this position until his death in 1999. Erb set up the first press room in the alpine ski circus with typewriters , telephone connections and improved information on results as part of the Lauberhorn races in a hotel. In 1966, the AIJS, in the person of Serge Lang, played a key role in the creation of the World Cup and began to work closely with the International Ski Federation (FIS). In the World Cup Committee introduced a year later, journalists from the AIJS received four seats.

Since the documents of the original founding in Switzerland could not be found, the association needed to be re-established in 2011 in order to meet the requirements of the international finance and tax authorities . The AIJS holds annual meetings in a Sölden hotel in the run-up to the start of the World Cup .

Prices

The AIJS has been awarding the Skieur d'Or (also Serge Lang Trophy ) award to the outstanding alpine skier of the season, who is chosen by the members , since 1963 . The first trophy from sponsor Martini & Rossi was given to Egon Zimmermann at the end of the season as part of the Arlberg Kandahar races . The award ceremony is now taking place in the FIS Forum Alpinum on the sidelines of the World Cup kick-off at the end of October in Sölden.

In the 2017/18 season , the AIJS held a competition for accredited World Cup photographers for the first time . The award was named after the long-time Associated Press photographer and World Cup companion Armando Trovati, who, among other things, was chief photographer of the 2006 Winter Olympics , who died in August 2017 . The jury selected a picture of Patrick Schweiger at his threader on the Streif as the first prize winner of the Prix Armando Trovati .

President

The board of the AIJS consists of a chairman (president) and three vice-presidents who deal with organization and management within the group. One of the vice-presidents is Patrick Lang , who has been a ski journalist since 1969 , son of the famous founder of the association. So far there have been three different presidents:
