Assunção Afonso dos Anjos (* 1946 in Luanda ) is an Angolan diplomat and politician .

biography

Dos Anjos studied law at the Universities of Coimbra and Lisbon .

After entering the diplomatic service , he became Director of the Department for Africa and the Middle East at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975 . After working as director of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister , José Eduardo dos Santos from 1978 to 1979 and a simultaneous further short stint as director of the Office of the Minister of Planning, 1979, he became head of the office of José Eduardo dos Santos, as this 1979 successor of Agostinho Neto as Became President of Angola.

After 14 years in this post, he returned to the diplomatic service in 1993 and was ambassador to Spain until 2000 . After he was ambassador to France , he was appointed ambassador to Portugal in 2002 .

On October 1, 2008, he was appointed successor to long-time Foreign Minister João Bernardo de Miranda . Dos Anjos is also a member of the Central Committee of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA). In 2010 he was replaced as Secretary of State by George Chicoti . He himself was then appointed advisor to the President.
