Astrid Gjertsen

Astrid Gjertsen (born September 14, 1928 in Horsens , Denmark ; † June 17, 2020 ) was a Norwegian politician of the conservative Høyre , who was a member of the Storting for 17 years and Minister for Consumers and Administration in the Willoch government between 1981 and 1986 .

Life

Housewife and local politician

Astrid Gjertsen, daughter of the farmer Senius Spaabæk and the housewife Helga Mogensen, came from Denmark and attended high school in Horsens between 1944 and 1946 . In 1946 she graduated from secondary school and then worked as a housewife. First she was between 1968 and 1974 chairwoman of the district association of the housewives' union ( Norges Husmorforbund ) in Aust-Agder.

Astrid Gjertsen began her political career in local politics and was a member of the municipal council of Tvedestrand between 1967 and 1975 . At the same time, she was chairwoman of the municipality's wages and administration committee and, from 1969 to 1974, chairwoman of the construction committee for the municipality's hospital. At the same time she was from 1969 to 1973 chairwoman of the women's association of Høyre in Tvedestrand and from 1972 to 1975 chairman of the municipal association of Høyre.

Furthermore, she was active from 1970 to 1975 as chairwoman of the hospital advisory board and from 1971 to 1975 as chairwoman of the advisory board for the central hospital of Fylke Aust-Agder. She was also vice-chairman of the advisory board for the meat industry between 1974 and 1981 and chairwoman of the advisory board of the Tvedestrand municipal hospital between 1974 and 1977.

Member of the Storting and Minister

After she was a deputy member of the Storting between 1969 and 1973, she was elected member of the Storting for the first time as a candidate for the Høyre in the parliamentary elections of September 10, 1973 and represented the interests of Fylke Aust-Agder until the parliamentary election in 1989.

During her parliamentary membership, she was a member of the Bureau of the Høyre Group in Storting between October 1973 and September 1981 . In addition, she was a member of the electoral committee in October 1973 and September 1981, as well as a member of the administrative committee from October 1973 to September 1977 and then from October 1977 to September 1981 secretary of the Storting's transport and communications committee. At the same time she was from November 1977 to February 1979 member of the protocol committee of the Storting and between January 1978 and January 1981 member of the delegation of the Storting to the Nordic Council .

In 1976 Astrid Gjertsen became a member of the central board of Høyre and was a member of it until 1986. During this time, between 1978 and 1982, she was also Høyre's second vice chairman.

Astrid Gjertsen was appointed Minister for Consumers and Administration ( Statsråd, Forbruker- og Administrasjonsdepartementet ) by State Minister (Prime Minister) Kåre Willoch on October 14, 1981 , and held this ministerial office until she was replaced on April 18, 1986 by her fellow party member Astrid N. Heiberg . During this time Tore A. Liltved acted as her representative in Storting.

During this time, between 1983 and 1985, she also chaired the electoral committee of her party. After leaving the government, she was a member of the Storting Social Committee from May 1986 to September 1989.
