The Audi research car is a fully drivable prototype vehicle from Audi NSU Auto Union AG , now Audi AG , for the demonstration of automotive research results. The Audi research car was shown to the public for the first time in September 1981 at the International Motor Show IAA in Frankfurt. In addition to the NSU Ro 80 , which appeared in 1967, the research car is considered to be the forerunner of the Audi 100 C3 Type 44 in terms of bodywork and design . The latter was presented in September 1982 and later referred to as the aerodynamics world champion and milestone in automotive design.
