structure

Stand up (spelling: stand up ) is a political organization in Germany . a. was initiated by the left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht . It sees itself as a gathering movement of the left political parties or direction.

background

After Sahra Wagenknecht had already propagated the idea of a left-wing collection movement over a period of several months, the website with the name aufhaben.de went into operation on August 4, 2018. The same weekend edition of the news magazine Der Spiegel carried an interview with Sahra Wagenknecht and supportive statements from Marco Bülow (then SPD , now independent), Sevim Dağdelen ( left ) and Antje Vollmer ( green ).

Models are both the collection movement La France insoumise by Jean-Luc Mélenchon , which was founded on the occasion of the 2017 presidential elections in France , as well as the Momentum campaign of British Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn and the movement The People for Bernie Sanders in support of the US -Senators and 2016 US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders .

The registered association on August 30, 2018, the collection movement e. V. is based in Berlin . The board of directors is the dramaturge Bernd Stegemann . According to managing director Ida Schillen , Sahra Wagenknecht is not a member of the association.

history

Cities with meetings of local stand up groups, as of November 28, 2018

The official kick-off took place on September 4, 2018 in the federal press conference with Sahra Wagenknecht, Bernd Stegemann, Ludger Volmer and Simone Lange . It was announced there that 101,741 people had registered as interested parties on the homepage within one month. According to Sevim Dağdelen, as of December 2018, there were 167,000 supporters and 188 local groups.

The Austrian civil society organization #aufstehn , which has existed since 2015, asked the German initiative to change the name, hashtag, font and color because there is a risk of confusion, #aufstehn is clearly different in terms of content and one does not want to "get into the waters of a party-political movement". Getting up was not willing to do this, all they could do was agree that the German project would do without the hashtag in the logo in future .

The end of 2018 under were aufstehen.de retrievable Internet pages temporarily unavailable because the sponsoring organization and the agency responsible for supervision side Cologne agency Three factory Entertainment had differences of the contractual position. After the agency had temporarily shut down the pages, the agreement was announced in a joint press release on December 21, 2018 and the pages were reactivated under the original domain.

In February 2019, Auferstand called for the nationwide “Aktion Bunte Westen”, in which several hundred people demonstrated in various German cities.

In March 2019, Sahra Wagenknecht announced her withdrawal from the top of Stand Up . The reason for their withdrawal was a burnout . She complained that the parties that the movement wanted to address had "walled themselves in". Several prominent members expressed criticism of their withdrawal in a joint statement.

Alignment

The project is directed “against the ruling line among the Greens, SPD and Left”. The aim should not be to found an independent party, but to enable parliamentary majorities for the political left in Germany, in particular for the parties represented in the Bundestag Die Linke , SPD and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . Another goal is to win back AfD voters . Getting up is supposed to become a left-wing gathering movement. Get up - founding board member Bernd Stegemann spoke out against a “well-meaning bourgeois class” who “look with emotion at the misery of the world”, while being blind to the social needs in their own country, the competitive pressure that results from immigration in their own country , according to which the class struggle is over and in which it is only about a " biopolitical perfection of everyday life and the language regulations of political correctness ".

In the founding appeal of Auferstand it is made clear that no program exists yet, as this should be worked out together with the supporters. Nevertheless, the first political goals are mentioned:

  • A new peace policy; Germany and Europe would have to become more independent from the USA.
  • Secure jobs, good wages, fair taxes, a renewed strong welfare state with an innovative economy
  • Environmentally friendly economic activity
  • Privatizations are to be ended and reversed.
  • Excellent education for everyone
  • Democracy is to be saved by restricting the influence of corporations and banks, enabling direct democracy, exposing lobbyism and prohibiting corporate donations to political parties.
  • Security in everyday life through more staff and better equipment for the police, justice and social work
  • A European Germany in a united Europe of sovereign democracies
  • The right to asylum is to be guaranteed for the persecuted, arms exports to areas of tension and unfair trade practices are to be ended, war and climate refugees are to be helped, poverty, hunger and diseases of misery are to be combated locally and prospects are to be created in their home countries.
  • A new world economic order should equalize the life chances of all peoples at a high level and in harmony with the resources .

Forms of participation

Pol.is

On the website of Auferstand , in an area for "digital debates" under the name of the open source software Pol.is used there, own theses and statements on various political issues are to be submitted and evaluated by everyone.

When evaluating a first test run under the heading “Germany is almost never going”, the two user groups identified by the software showed a consensus on many of the theses submitted. The topic should be narrowed down for future rounds in order to be able to handle it better.

Action days

On November 3, 2018, Auferstand called for a day of action under the title “Dignity instead of weapons”, which was intended to promote disarmament and investment in social policy. Action ideas are presented on the website and materials are available for download.

reception

Wagenknecht received encouragement for the idea from various politicians from the left parties in the Bundestag (Die Linke, SPD and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen). The project, and Lafontaine and Wagenknecht in particular, were also criticized from within the Left Party. Dietmar Bartsch said he supported the move to the center-left and that the project could provide movement, but Lafontaine and Wagenknecht do not necessarily stand for the merging of leftists. Benjamin Hoff criticized that the movement served the trend of "us against politics up there", that this was "anti-enlightenment". In the SPD there was talk of "a PR number from Mrs. Wagenknecht", it said in the mirror . Klaus Staeck sees getting up as a "frontal attack, especially against social democracy". The SPD politician Hilde Mattheis , chairwoman of the Forum Democratic Left 21 , emphasized her view that a gathering movement could only emerge “from the bottom up”. The federal chairwoman of the Greens, Annalena Baerbock, made a similar statement in the ZDF summer interview .

Several personalities from the cultural sector , such as B. the author Ingo Schulze , as well as the social and political sciences , z. B. Wolfgang Streeck , the historian Peter Brandt and the political economist Dieter Klein expressed support for the left-wing collection movement.

The co- chairman of the Left in the Bundestag, Dietmar Bartsch, spoke out in favor of the movement as a counterweight to the shift to the right in Germany after he had expressed skepticism in advance. Wagenknecht's involvement, however, led to a conflict with party leader Katja Kipping and other politicians of the party, whose board of directors distanced itself from getting up in a majority decision in September 2018 .

The protest and movement researcher Dieter Rucht sees the founding of the collection movement as a sign of the weakness of the politicians involved. On Deutschlandfunk he said: "If you yourself are on the rise, and if you think you will get unanimous support within the party, then it is not at all necessary to call for a gathering movement."

A representative survey by Kantar Emnid on behalf of the Focus showed that 34 percent of Germans could imagine voting up if the organization were to run for elections. According to this, 87 percent of the supporters of the Left Party could imagine this, 52 percent of the supporters of the Greens and 37 percent of the SPD supporters.
