August Anhalt

August Anhalt (born August 7, 1899 in Eisenach , † November 18, 1975 in Mihla ) was a German painter, draftsman and graphic artist of the modern age.

life and work

He lived in Kassel from October 1920 and studied at the Kassel Art Academy from 1922 to 1928 under the teachers Ewald Dülberg and Kay Heinrich Nebel . According to the registration card, Anhalt lived there until 1935 and then settled in Eisenach. From 1923 he belonged to the artist group Die FÜNF and was a member of the Kassel Secession . Anhalt took part in the exhibitions of the Kassel Secession in 1927, 1929 and 1938 . In 1958 his works were shown on the occasion of the anniversary exhibition 175 Years of the Kassel Art Academy .

He created portraits, figurative representations, nudes, still lifes, landscapes (e.g. the Karlsaue ), graphics and sculptures. In the works that were shown in the 3rd German Art Exhibition , it becomes clear that Anhalt has approached the style of socialist realism .
