August Strobel

August Strobel (born March 4, 1930 in Schwarzenbach an der Saale ; † September 9, 2006 in Hof ) was a Protestant theologian and from 1965 to 1983 held the chair for New Testament at the Augustana University in Neuendettelsau . From 1983 to 1992 he was the director of the German Evangelical Institute for Classical Studies in Jerusalem and Amman .

His academic career began at the theological faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen , from which he received his doctorate in 1956. theol. and where he completed his habilitation in the New Testament in 1960. His theological teachers included Werner Elert and Hermann Strathmann . Strobel has made a name for himself above all in Judeo-Christian antiquity.
