Augusto Silj
Augusto Cardinal Silj (born July 9, 1846 in Calcara di Visso , Province of Perugia , Italy ; † February 27, 1926 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Augusto Silj received his philosophical , theological and legal training in Norcia and Rome. He holds doctorates in both canon law and civil law . After his ordination , he worked as a pastor in various parishes in the Diocese of Rome and headed the Hospice Dei Convertendi . In 1901 he became advisor to the Congregation for Bishops , in 1904 advisor to the Pontifical Commission for the Codification of Canon Law . 1906 Pope named him Pius X toPapal house prelate and titular archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia . The episcopal ordination received Augusto Silj by Cardinal Rafael Merry del Val y Zulueta ; Co- consecrators were Pietro Gasparri , Secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs, and Ercolano Marini , Bishop of Norcia .
In 1908 Augusto Silj became advisor to the Council Congregation, in 1916 Vice Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church. Pope Benedict XV accepted him on December 15, 1919 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Cecilia in the college of cardinals and a year later appointed him papal vicar of the Shrine of Our Lady in Pompeii and prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature . Augusto Cardinal Silj took part in the conclave of 1922.
He died on February 27, 1926 in Rome and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery there.
