Augustus Radcliffe Grote
Augustus Radcliffe Grote (* 1841 near Liverpool , † 1903 in Hildesheim ) was a well-known American entomologist and particularly active as a butterfly researcher.
biography
Grote researched, discovered and named moths mainly in North America , especially in the USA , Mexico and Cuba . The butterfly Cautethia grotei ("Grote Sphinx") was named after him. In 1976 he was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society .
Grote was married and the father of Louis Ruyter Radcliffe Grote .
