Aun Shaukat al-Chasauneh ( Arabic عون شوكت الخصاونة, DMG ʿAwn Šawkat al-Ḫaṣāwina ; Born February 22, 1950 in Amman , Jordan ) is a Jordanian lawyer , diplomat and politician. From October 24, 2011 to May 2, 2012 he was Prime Minister of Jordan.

Life

After studying at Cambridge University , Aun Schaukat al-Chasauneh joined the Jordanian diplomatic service in 1975 and held various high-ranking positions in the diplomatic and judicial bodies of Jordan. In 2000 he was elected judge at the International Court of Justice for a nine-year term , and in November 2008 he was re-elected for a further term starting in February 2009. From 2006 to 2009 he served as Vice-President of the Court.

On October 17, 2011, it was announced that al-Chasauneh was replacing Maʿruf al-Bachit as head of government. On April 26, 2012, al-Chasauneh resigned.

On February 4, 2013, al-Chasauneh was appointed a member of a five-member court of arbitration under the Convention on the Law of the Sea . Together with Elsa Kelly , Thomas A. Mensah , Bernard H. Oxman and Bruno Simma , he was supposed to decide on a dispute under maritime law between Argentina and Ghana .

He serves as an ad hoc judge nominated by Nicaragua at the International Court of Justice in the case of Maritime Delimitation in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean (Costa Rica v. Nicaragua) .
