Die Ausgrabungen und Funde (AuF) was a scientific archaeological journal that was published on behalf of the Central Institute for Ancient History and Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR .

In the AuF , well-known archaeologists from the museums for prehistory and prehistory, which had been left in the old country structures, reported on important excavations and research results in addition to articles on the development and methods of research. Six issues were published annually on Saxony , Brandenburg and Berlin , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia . A detailed bibliography on prehistory and early history was published in the 6th issue.

The AuF appeared from 1956 as the successor to the news paper for the German past that was published from 1925 to 1943 .

The editor in charge was Paul Grimm from 1956 to 1972 , and later Karl-Heinz Otto .

The AuF appeared until 1995, after which it was replaced by the Archäologische Nachrichtenblatt (4 issues a year).
