Integration officer
An integration commissioner , also commissioner for migration and integration (formerly: foreigners commissioner ) is an office whose owner is responsible for the concerns of migrants and persons with a migration background within the government of a country, federal state or a municipality , as well as for their successful integration begins.
The office of the integration officer is usually located at the respective ministry of social affairs or the respective equivalent at local level (e.g. department for social affairs), more rarely also at the ministry of justice or directly under the head of the executive, e.g. B. at the Chancellery or Mayor . The integration officer usually has no executive powers, but is the contact person for all departments in matters of integration and migration . In addition, he also acts as an advocate in individual cases and is a regular member of the hardship commission for rejected asylum seekers .

Until the beginning of 2011, the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior had a civil servant integration officer. On April 20, 2011, the position of State Secretary for Integration was created, with which Sebastian Kurz was entrusted. After he became Foreign Minister in December 2013, the previous State Secretariat moved to the Foreign Ministry as a new section.
