An Austin bar is a comparatively rare piercing through the tip of the nose . It does not run through the ala or the nasal septum , but horizontally through the anterior cartilage cap. The variant that runs vertically through the tip of the nose is called rhino piercing . It was named after its first bearer. A barbell is usually used as piercing jewelry . The piercing usually takes two to three months to heal.
