The A4 at the Dresden-Nord triangle |
The Dresden-Nord motorway triangle (abbreviation: AD Dresden-Nord ; short form: Dresden-Nord triangle ) is a motorway triangle in Saxony . It connects the federal highway 13 ( Berlin - Dresden ) with the federal highway 4 ( Aachen - Eisenach - Görlitz ).
geography
The northern part of the motorway triangle lies in the Volkersdorf district of the city of Radeburg , the southern part today belongs to the Dresden district of Hellerau or, in earlier times, to Rähnitz . Thus, the border between the district-free city of Dresden and the district of Meißen also runs through the triangle . The surrounding towns and communities are Moritzburg and Ottendorf-Okrilla . The closest districts are Klotzsche , Rähnitz, Wilschdorf and Weixdorf on the Dresden side, as well as Bärnsdorf and Volkersdorf. It is located about 10 km north of Dresden city center, about 80 km southwest of Cottbus and about 160 km south of Berlin .
Dresden Airport is located directly to the east of the triangle .
The Dresden-Nord motorway triangle has junction number 82 on the A 4 and number 23 on the A 13.
history
After its construction in 1938, it was first called "Bautzner Dreieck". Later the triangle was first renamed “Bautzner Abzweig”, then into “Abzweig Dresden-Hellerau” and finally into “Abzweig Dresden”. From 1951 to 1971 the structure was used as a motorcycle and car racing track " Autobahnspinne Dresden ". Among other things, the GDR championships took place here. After the reunification , the triangle got the name "Autobahn triangle Dresden".
With the construction of the “Dresden Airport” motorway junction , an additional ramp was built from the lanes towards Berlin back onto the A 4 to Görlitz, as the eastern part of the junction is already on the separated lane to the A 13 for reasons of space.
With the completion of the Dresden-West triangle to connect the A 17 to the A 4, the AD Dresden was given the new name “Autobahn triangle Dresden-North”.
Design and state of development
The A4 has six lanes to the west. The A 13, just like the A 4 to the east, has four lanes. The Chemnitz- Berlin route and vice versa are two-lane and mark the end point of the A 13. All other connecting ramps are single-lane.
The motorway triangle was designed as a right-hand trumpet. Since the Fürstenweg, which is still passable today, as part of an old connection between the town centers of Klotzsche and Volkersdorf, crosses under the motorway triangle at the point where the motorways meet, three additional overpasses had to be built.
Traffic volume
The triangle is used by around 97,000 vehicles every day.
