Avenge but one of my two eyes ( Hebrew נקם־אחת משתי עיני Nekam-'achat mixed enai ) is a documentary of the Israeli director Avi Mograbi from the year 2005 . the title is taken from the Hebrew Bible ( Judg 16.28  EU ).

Mograbi took the discussion of the “culture of death” in Islam that took place on the occasion of suicide bombings as an opportunity to reflect on the culture of death in his own culture.

The film combines several levels of representation. It shows the harassment and humiliation to which the Palestinians are exposed, the evocation of Jewish martyrdom in Masada , the cult around the biblical hero Samson , whose heroism is brought closer to children in school, but also the activities of peace activists .

In the film, the director can be seen during a long telephone conversation with a Palestinian in the then (2002) besieged city of Bethlehem . In it the desperation of the people becomes clear, to whom life no longer seems to be worth much.

Mograbi also shows a concert by the right-wing extremists Kach and Kahane Chai , which calls for revenge . It is a racist , officially banned organization, but its event was open and under state protection.

Avenge but one of my two eyes is a polemical film that does not pretend to be objective and aims to encourage discussion.

film Festival

The film was shown for the first time at the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2005 , at three other French film festivals in early July and premiered on July 14, 2005 in Israel. He received the 2006 DOEN Award from Amnesty International .
