Bärbel Thoelke

Bärbel Thoelke (born February 3, 1938 in Stralsund ) is a German porcelain designer.

Life

Bärbel Thoelke studied ceramics and vessel design with Wolfgang Henze, ER Vogenauer and Rudolf Kaiser at the University of Fine and Applied Arts Berlin-Weißensee from 1958 to 1963. After graduating, she worked from 1963 to 1968 as a factory designer in the Freiberg / Saxony porcelain factory. From 1970 to 1975 she took on a teaching position at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art. Since 1970 she has been working as a freelance porcelain designer and ceramist in her own workshop in Berlin.

The focus of her work is on porcelain vessels and objects that are oriented towards classical modernism. Her best-known works for industry are the mocha service “Madeleine” (1964) and the fireproof household tableware “Cordoflam 77” (1977) for the Freiberg / Sa porcelain factory. as well as collections of unique porcelain vessels for the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen (2006/2008), the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (2010/2011), the Schwarzburger Porcelain Art Workshops (2012/2013) and the Augarten Porcelain Manufactory Vienna (2015).
