Béla Békessy (born November 16, 1875 in Debrecen , Austria-Hungary , † July 6, 1916 in Volhynia , today's Ukraine ) was a Hungarian fencer .
Life
Béla Békessy took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm in all individual competitions. With the sword he was eliminated in the preliminary round, with the foil he was seventh. In the saber competition he reached the final round together with six other Hungarians and an Italian and placed behind Jenő Fuchs in second place, which he won the silver medal. Between 1901 and 1907 he secured several Hungarian championship titles. In 1907 he was also the Hungarian dressage champion .
During World War I , Békessy served in a hussar regiment on the Russian front. He was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown for his involvement in the capture of 200 Russian prisoners of war and the securing of secret documents . Shortly afterwards he fell in Volhynia in what is now Ukraine .
