The abbreviation of the title stands for Bring Your Own Bombs . The title is often wrongly interpreted as Bring Your Own Booze , the common meaning of the English abbreviation (in German, for example: Buddelparty ).

The refrain describes the media and state propaganda, which make everything look like a happy celebration. The verse contains the actual message of the song that SOAD wants to bring to the listener.

Awards

System of a Down won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance at the 2006 Grammy Awards for the song . In addition, the band was nominated for the song at the Kerrang Awards 2005 for best video and best single.

Music video

The music video was directed by Jake Nava . It shows an army of remotely controlled soldiers marching through the streets, wearing masks with inscriptions such as "DIE", "TRUTH", "OBEY", "BUY" and "GOD" on screens. In between the band played, later also in a night club. As the soldiers storm the club, Daron Malakian yells : “Blast off! It's party time! And we don't live in a fascist nation! Blast off! It's party time! And where the fuck are you ?! ”At the end the band members wear the masks too.
