Bachirou Salou (born September 15, 1970 in Lomé ) is a former Togolese football player with German nationality . The former Togolese international played in the position of the center forward.
Career
Salou was discovered at the age of 19 by Anton Ondruš , a former Czechoslovak national player , during his vacation in Cameroon at a provincial club there. Ondruš referred Salou to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 1990 , where he quickly became a crowd favorite.
After five years he moved to MSV Duisburg ; there he managed to establish himself as a striker in the Bundesliga. But already at Borussia Dortmund , where he only stayed for a year, as well as in his later stations, he was no longer able to build on the achievements from the Duisburg days. His drop in performance during his time at Eintracht Frankfurt was particularly evident : he was signed for around 7 million marks from Dortmund for the 1999/2000 season , and a year and a half later he was resold to Hansa Rostock for only 700,000 marks.
After 14 years in the two German leagues, Salou moved to the second Belgian league at KAS Eupen in summer 2004 , but returned to Germany during the winter break, where he was active at SC Kapellen-Erft until 2006 ; in 2003 he had played briefly for the Lower Rhine association league club.
Salou played a total of 253 games in the Bundesliga and 47 games in the 2nd Bundesliga, scoring 51 first division and 11 second division goals. For Togo, he played 39 international matches, in which he scored 17 goals.
