The vehicles of type II b of the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways were express train steam locomotives .

These vehicles were intended to be the successor model for class II a and had slightly different dimensions. The drive wheels had been enlarged and the bogie was moved forward so that the first axle was next to the cylinders. With these measures, the running properties could be improved somewhat. However, since the machines did not produce any higher performance than their predecessors, only ten copies were made and a completely new locomotive was developed with the class II c .

The locomotives had a Belpaire standing boiler with a tall standing boiler. The cathedral was on the back of the boiler. The outer frame was made of sheet metal 28 mm thick. The cross and longitudinal struts were firmly riveted. The suspension of the coupling wheels was provided by leaf springs underneath with compensating levers. The bogie had an inner frame, the running wheels had overhead leaf springs.

The vehicles were equipped with type 3 T 12 tenders .

Five vehicles were planned for the Deutsche Reichsbahn . According to the 1923 redesignation plan, they were to be redrawn as class 36.73. Numbers 36 7331 to 36 7335 were planned. There was no definitive redrawing because they were withdrawn by 1925.
