The vehicles of the V b series were double-coupled tank locomotives of the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways from 1876.

history

By converting various locomotives of the Baden State Railways into tank locomotives, enough vehicles of this type were available. The railway administration therefore saw no urgent need to purchase special tank locomotives in large numbers for use in light passenger train traffic.

1876 procured the state railway for the management by the Murgtalbahn eight tank engines for light-duty passenger train service. The locomotives manufactured in the old Karlsruhe style were retired between 1911 and 1920.

Constructive features

The locomotives had a sheet metal inner frame made of simple solid sheets. The long boiler was made from three shots. The large steam dome sat on the rear boiler section and the regulator attachment on the front. The chimney was conical.

The external two-cylinder wet steam engine worked on the front coupling axle. The sliders were inside. The Stephenson controls were inside. The dome chases were cushioned by leaf springs below. The two spring assemblies of the respective axles were connected with a compensating lever. The barrel axle was sprung with an overhead leaf spring package.

The screw brakes worked on the coupling wheels from the front. Westinghouse air brakes were later installed. The sandpit sat in the middle of the boiler and sanded the front coupling axle from the front. The coal container was arranged at the rear of the cab. The water tanks were located next to the long boiler and took up the entire area from the smoke chamber to the driver's cab.
