The Husum Bahnbetriebswerk of Transdev Maintenance GmbH (formerly Eisenbahnwerkstatt-Gesellschaft mbh ) is the central maintenance company in Husum .

history

Originally there were two depots in operation in Husum. The so-called BW G (G = freight traffic) was located near the former Husum-Nord train station . For almost 100 years there were also loading ramps of a freight yard, which was equipped for the transport of cattle to the nearby Husum cattle market . As a result of the closure of the cattle market, this depot lost its importance in the 1970s. Until the end of the steam engine, it was a depot for several Prussian freight locomotives . After the closure of this plant, the entire facility was severely dismantled. Since then, it has only been used to park the trains serviced in BW P (passenger traffic).

The Hf electronic interlocking is located at the southern entrance to the facility, which is still south of the Husum-Nord station building . From here, the track systems of the march railway between the Husum and Bredstedt stations and the ESTW-A Keitum located on the island of Sylt are included the two train stations Morsum and Keitum .

The remaining depot Husum was originally called BW P . From here the passenger trains on the routes from Husum were hauled. Long rail buses and accumulator railcars were also serviced, and the car train transport cars that ran over Hindenburgdamm were repaired.

Todays situation

Since 2006, the depot has been the central facility for maintaining the railway fleet of the Nord-Ostsee-Bahn (NOB) belonging to the Transdev GmbH company . In 2016, the maintenance of the rolling stock of the Railroad Development Corporation (RDC), which operates a car transport train service between Niebüll and Westerland in competition with the Sylt-Shuttle, was added.

The site is located at the eastern end of the Husum train station on the Mauseberge. The routes to Kiel (via Jübek, Schleswig and Rendsburg) and Hamburg (via Elmshorn) branch off here . The halls and facilities were built on previously fallow land. The only remaining building from the original depot is the round locomotive shed . Today this is only used as a storage room. The maintenance work to be carried out takes place in the adjoining, then newly built, modern depot.

With the handover of traction services on the march line to DB Regio for the timetable change in December 2016, the future of the depot is unclear. Deutsche Bahn uses the existing capacities in Neumünster and Hamburg-Langenfelde to maintain its trains. In November 2016, the situation was still in limbo.
