The station Achern is the largest and most important of the four stations of the district town Achern in Baden-Wuerttemberg . He has the address Railway Road 40 , located at kilometer 125.3 of the railway line Mannheim-Basel (Rheintalbahn) and is the starting point for Ottenhöfen leading Achertalbahn that the SWEG is operated. The station has four platform tracks and belongs to  the Deutsche Bahn station category 4 . Since December 2004 it has also been the terminus of lines S7 and S71 (formerly: S4 and S32) of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn .

Achern train station is located on the north-western edge of the city of Achern, around 700 meters west of the city center, on the southern edge of the Mittelmatten industrial park . In the immediate vicinity of the Achern train station run federal highway 3 and the upgraded and new Karlsruhe – Basel line running parallel to the Rhine Valley Railway .

history

On June 1, 1844, opened Grand Ducal Baden State Railways to stretch Baden-Oos - Offenburg the Rhine Valley line, which also got its Achern Station. The station building was a Neoclassical building brick in the round arch style with decorations of terracotta . With the opening of the private Achertalbahn on September 1, 1898, the station finally became a separation station . In 1957, the connection to the electrical railway network followed when the Rhine Valley Railway was electrified . In the 1990s , the Rhine Valley Railway was straightened and relocated around 100 meters to the west in the Achern area. The old station was abandoned and demolished and the current station was built on the new line, while the Achertalbahn was extended into the new station. The new building houses a Deutsche Bahn travel center and a branch of the station bookstore Schmitt & Hahn .

Like the entire Ortenau district, Achern is part of the tariff association of Ortenau (TGO). In addition to the regional express trains of Deutsche Bahn every 60 minutes (30 in the peak hours) in the direction of Karlsruhe or Offenburg (- Konstanz or Freiburg-Basel) and the SWEG trains on the Achertalbahn (Achern - Ottenhöfen), the lines S7 and S71 (formerly : S4 and S32) of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn, which ends or begins in Achern. On the station forecourt there is a bus station with six bus platforms for regional buses, including the RVS line 7123 via Allerheiligen Abbey to Oppenau .
