The Berlin Albrechtshof station is a regional station in the district Staaken in Berlin 's Spandau district on the Berlin-Hamburg railway . In terms of railway operations, it has been a stopping point since a renovation in the mid-1990s .

history

The station, equipped with two side platforms, was opened on April 1, 1943 during the Second World War . It was intended for the S-Bahn service , which was to be extended from Spandau West via Falkensee to Nauen . In the immediate vicinity was the Reichsbahn repair shop of the S-Bahn (from 1942 DEMAG armored works), which was built in 1938 and survived all air raids almost undamaged and was dismantled after the end of the war; the factory halls were then blown up by the Red Army . Since the division of Germany thinned long-distance traffic to the western part of the city, it was possible in 1950 to operate the S-Bahn via the still existing long-distance track, which was equipped with a conductor rail, to Falkensee. Albrechtshof was the only station between Spandau West and the Falkensee terminus.

Similar to Staaken station , Albrechtshof was on GDR territory from 1951 to 1990 . So it came about that a short time after the Wall was built in 1961, an S-Bahn shuttle service between Albrechtshof and Falkensee could take place. Since there were no parking or workshop facilities, the shuttle service was stopped after a few days, the Albrechtshof station became the end point of the Sputnik trains that connected Albrechtshof with Nauen and the Falkenhagen station (Kr Nauen) on the Berlin outer ring , where connection in the direction of Birkenwerder ( and on to Berlin) or to Potsdam . Individual trains in rush hour traffic connected Albrechtshof directly with Berlin-Lichtenberg station .

After the wall was built, the line via Albrechtshof initially remained in operation for the interzonal trains from the direction of Hamburg. After the train driver Harry Deterling with his family and friends on December 5, 1961 used the regular train he was running to Albrechtshof for a sensational escape to West Berlin, the line was closed and dismantled in the border area (see also: feature film “ Breakthrough Locomotive 234 ").

Only after the fall of the wall did the area around the Albrechtshof train station come under Berlin's administrative sovereignty again.

As early as 1990 there were the first trains from Nauen to Berlin (but not via Albrechtshof), which first ended in Charlottenburg , then Jungfernheide , and later Westkreuz . The route between Falkensee and Albrechtshof was temporarily closed in 1993 and completely renovated between Falkensee and Spandau. The old, ground-level Albrechtshof station was removed and rebuilt about 80 meters away on the embankment as a breakpoint . On May 28, 1995, it was opened to traffic again, as was the entire Berlin – Hamburg route. In the course of this measure, the previous road connection Seegefelder Weg – Jänickendorfer Weg had to be interrupted, the traffic management was relocated by approx. 100 meters westwards and has since taken place through the underpass Straße 339 – Zeestower Weg.

To enable barrier-free access to the platforms, the construction of elevators was planned in 2013. The construction work was completed in 2014.

A restart of the S-Bahn traffic to Falkensee is under discussion. Albrechtshof is to receive an S-Bahn station again instead of the regional train stop. However, decisions have not yet been made.

The station is served by regional trains of the DB Regio Nordost and the city ​​bus line 237 (Isenburger Weg – S + U Rathaus Spandau) of the BVG .
