Boisheim [ ˈboːshaɪ̯m mit Dehnungs-i ] is the smallest district of Viersen with around 2000 inhabitants . With the associated agricultural area, the area of the Boisheim district is 5.91 square kilometers.

Due to its rural structure, Boisheim owns a few smaller outlying clusters of farms such as Lind and Pütterhöfe in addition to the village center and the adjoining buildings .

history

Originally Boisheim was a Franconian settlement. The place is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1304. 1304 Boisheim belonged to the county of Kessel ; until 1794 to the St. Pantaleon Abbey in Cologne . The place was plundered several times, including during the Thirty Years' War . The Duke of Jülich established a customs post here in 1725 as sovereign.

On March 1, 1945, soldiers of the US 84th Infantry Division took Boisheim on the night of February 28 to March 1. The night advance surprised the soldiers in Boisheim. In the morning the US soldiers marched into Dülken from there .

On January 1, 1970, Boisheim was incorporated into the city of Viersen as part of the municipal reorganization .

The tornado in the Viersen district on May 16, 2018 caused damage to the place.

Attractions

The Luzia Chapel , which stands in the middle of the village today, dates from the beginning of the 17th century. Presumably it was built by the citizens at the entrance to the village as thanks for surviving a plague .

The Church of St. Peter was built in 1487. Its tower was rebuilt in 1898 as part of an extension, the old choir was retained. It is interesting that in the choir there is older Rhenish tuff mixed with bricks as a building material.
