The Chamartín train station (Spanish Estación de Chamartín ) in the north of Madrid is one of the two main train stations in the Spanish capital.

It was built for the 1982 World Cup and replaced the Atocha train station near the city center. After the Atocha station was fundamentally rebuilt in 1992 for the AVE high-speed train, among other things , Chamartín gradually lost its importance. With the completion of the Madrid – Valladolid high-speed line in December 2007, Chamartín experienced an upswing again, as the high-speed connections to the north of the country have since started from here.

On Christmas Eve in 2003, an attack by ETA on Chamartín train station was prevented.

In addition to long-distance traffic, Chamartín has been connected to line 10 of the Madrid Metro since 1982 . Since March 30, 2007, line 1 has also connected the station with the city center. In addition, suburban trains of the Cercanías Madrid connect the Chamartín train station with a total of seven lines via Túnel de la risa with the Atocha train station and the city center.

The station building is to be renovated and expanded in the course of the Operación Chamartín in the next few years.
