The breakpoint Göbelnrod is located at kilometer 20.3 of of casting by Fulda leading Vogelsberg Railway . The station building is now a listed building.

history

Only 39 years after the first section of the Vogelsbergbahn from Gießen to Grünberg went into operation on December 29, 1869, Göbelnrod received a stop. This was opened on July 1, 1908. The first timetable provided for five passenger train stops in the direction of Fulda and four in the direction of Gießen.

In the 1970s the staff was withdrawn as part of rationalization measures. The planned demolition of the station building could be averted by the commitment of the city of Grünberg to take over the maintenance and care of the system. In autumn 2011 the 140 m long platform was replaced by a new building of the same length.

building

As the Grünberger Anzeiger reported a year earlier , the construction of the half-timbered structure built in 1908, made of weak wood and provided with struts , including the construction of the breakpoint, cost 7,000 marks . The community of Göbelnrod, which was still independent at the time, was responsible for the amount by unanimous decision of the local board.

The single-storey, elongated and scale-like building was provided with a protruding pent roof. The component, which protrudes slightly to the west, was previously used as a counter. Today this is the waiting area for travelers, mainly commuters and students.

During the celebrations for Göbelnrod's 700th anniversary in 2010, the original waiting room in the eastern section briefly served as an exhibition room on the local railway history.

For the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Hesse , the station building is considered a cultural monument for historical reasons because of its importance in terms of traffic history.
