The Kölleda train station is the train station in the small town of Kölleda in the Sömmerda district in Thuringia . It went into operation in 1874. From 1914 to 1947 it was a connecting station . Regional trains serve the station for passenger transport, and there is a siding to the local industrial area for freight transport.

location

The station is almost one kilometer south of the city center in the extreme south of Kölleda. It borders further north on the street Am Bahnhof . The Großneuhausen stop is about four kilometers to the east. To the west, the next station is the Kiebitzhöhe stop, three kilometers away . The end of the siding in the industrial area of ​​Kölleda is three kilometers as the crow flies.

General story

On August 14, 1874, the Kölleda station was opened on the Straussfurt – Großheringen railway line. The line from Laucha went into operation on May 1, 1914. The tracks of the Pfefferminzbahn had to be moved 50 meters to the south so that the tracks of the Finnebahn had enough space. In 1947 this section of the line to Kölleda was dismantled as a reparation payment to the Soviet Union . The station thus lost its status as a connecting station.

Until 1927 the station was called Cölleda and was renamed Kölleda .

The infrastructure has been leased to the Thuringian Railway since 2005 .

The station had the greatest expansion in terms of tracks in the years from 1914 to 1946, when construction work on the Finnebahn took place in 1913/14. Due to the reparations made after 1945, the number of tracks decreased considerably.

In 1942, in addition to the continuous main track (track 7), there was a crossing track (track 8). This was located on a central platform . From the house platform , they were connected to one another via a passenger tunnel. The continuous main track of the Finnebahn (track 5) was also on the central platform. Tracks 3 and 4 served as freight tracks.

Due to the reparations payments, Kölleda lost tracks 3 and 5 as well as some side tracks.

In 1979 the Kölleda station had eight tracks (see table). Two central platforms were available for passenger traffic (105 meters and 190 meters long).

A roundhouse with six gates and an attached water tower was located in the south-west of the station complex . Its area was once 1200 square meters. It was expanded in the course of the construction of the Finnebahn. The associated turntable was 50 square meters. Next to it was a coal barn (540 m²).

The superstructure of track 3 was in a very poor condition. The switches had already been dismantled by DB Netz and were no longer available when the Thuringian Railway took over. The ballast bed was contaminated and overgrown.

For the years 2014/15 it was planned to increase the capacities for the expected future freight traffic. A previously existing main track was restored and used for this purpose. This is used for entry and exit, crossing, parking, train formation and train completion and was equipped with the necessary signaling systems. This measure is intended to enable flexibility in operational processes and the growth of freight traffic. The design speed in the area is 50 km / h. No structural changes were made at the level crossing with the designation Ko. Only adjustment work was carried out in the course of installing the points and the tamping and straightening work on the tracks. Cable ducts, crossings and shafts were built for the control and safety technology. The traffic was hardly affected in the ten to twelve year construction period, only the integration of the two new points took place during weekend closures.

Likewise, a new outer platform was built by DB Station & Service , which replaced the old central platform and is located about 200 meters further east at Gebösestrasse . Construction work for it began in October 2014. The handover ceremony took place on December 19th. The step-free platform and its lighting were rebuilt. There is also a weather protection house and a dynamic text display for delay information and time. The length of the new platform is 60 meters and the height 55 centimeters. A total of 300,000 euros were invested. 100 travelers use the station every day (2014).

Reception building

The reception building is a half-timbered building that dates from 1914. It is located north of the track system. In 1979 its area was 320 square meters. It used to contain bathroom scales.

In 2011 it housed three apartments, one of which was rented. The commercial space comprises 244 square meters and the property 2347 square meters. Deutsche Bahn sold it, along with other station buildings, to a British company. Initially, the city of Kölleda expressed no interest in buying it. The minimum bid fell tenfold to 7,000 euros. But on December 1, 2011, the city of Kölleda auctioned the building for 23,500 euros. The decision to take part in the auction was made at short notice. An additional bid increased the price again a lot.

Signal boxes

At the western exit from Sömmerda you will find the former switchman interlocking with the name "Ko". The dispatcher interlocking (Fdl), which was called "Kw", was at the exit from Großheringen. They were built as a new building when the Finnebahn went into operation. Their sizes are 40 square meters (Ww) and 50 square meters. Both are Jüdel type signal boxes . In 2012 both went out of service. For this purpose, an electromechanical dispatcher interlocking went online in the same year.

Other plants

In 1979 there were two loading lanes near tracks 19 and 20. There were two water cranes on tracks 8 and 22 with a pumping capacity of two cubic meters per minute. In addition, there were four loading ramps , two of which were sides, a head and a combined ramp. A goods shed in brick construction with a size of 210 square meters was located west of the reception building. There was also a toilet building .

Regional trains run every two hours on the EB 27 line of the Erfurt Railway to Sömmerda and Buttstädt .

Freight transport

The Axthelm forwarding company had its own siding, directly north of the reception building. It was 135 meters long. Other former customers were a wholesale company and a VEB coal trade. Goods were also loaded in Kölleda for the National People's Army at the Sprötau location . In addition, a rail connection to the field airfield at Kiebitzhöhe was served. It was built in the 1930s. According to former employees, it served to fly in and arm aircraft manufactured in Kassel for the Wehrmacht . She used a WR 360 C 14 for the shunting trips . This connection was used by a VEAB (grain trade) and an agrochemical center after the Second World War . A tank farm was also temporarily serviced. According to statements made by some railway workers from Kölleda, two steam locomotives were required for connection service in the 1960s.

Today there is only the long siding in the Kölleda industrial area. The Thuringian Railway has been operating freight traffic on the route since 2005 . Since the takeover, two more customers have been added in Kölleda. This includes the MDC Power GmbH plant and a container transshipment point. Up to ten trains run there every day. In addition, wood is occasionally loaded at the Kölleda train station. A further growth in freight traffic is foreseeable.

Due to the freight traffic, which still takes place today, Kölleda was spared significant track dismantling in the 1990s.
